County Records Search Process

Our team reviews the address history of your applicant and the results of any instant criminal record databases to determine which jurisdictions to search for criminal records.

Per the FCRA and ProScreening, we search 10 years of address history but only report convictions and if the state where the applicant will be either living or working is in CA, CO, KS, MD, MT, NH, NM, NY, TX or WA and the address is within 7 years. MA is only 5 years of address history. We do not report dismissed cases.

Any possible hits from instant databases are sent to researchers to ensure we have the most accurate and up-to-date record possible. In the vast majority of cases, our researchers can perform the searches themselves. However, there are some Counties where court clerks must perform the research. We call these courts "Clerk Assisted Courts."

Our researcher will let us know if the search will take longer than the normal 2-3 business day average. Clerk assisted searches tend to take a little bit longer than the normal 2-3 business day average. The court clerk's normal daily duties will almost always take priority over pulling criminal record case files. A court clerk may have several requests to pull files from several different background check companies at any given moment. These requests are typically filled in the order they are received. Our researcher will continue to update ProScreening of any delays on pending searches.

Results are then delivered to ProScreening and will be reviewed to ensure they are reportable. Once the final review is complete, the results of the search will be provided to you.
